Senior Software Engineer project monitoring & teamwork

September 30, 2021

We currently have several job openings, including the senior software engineer position. Of course, the best way to get a good impression of this position is to read the experiences of our senior software engineer. Therefore the blog of Ben Rietjens, senior software engineer at Prospact!

Whether you work on a large or small project, you have to deliver the job well from start to finish. Depending on the size of the project, you work in a team, in pairs or alone. Regardless of the size of the job, you're never alone: the technical lead watches over you whenever you want. You can always fall back on his knowledge of technical solutions. You can also contact him for questions about after-care or malfunctions.

Never standing alone' is typical of the way we work here at Prospact. Apart from all the technical skills involved in a job as an engineer, I think it is certainly important that you become enthusiastic about working in a team!

The work of the software engineer and the senior software engineer are largely similar. As a senior, you are more in charge of process monitoring, especially when working as part of a team. Keeping to the schedule, constantly considering the customer's wishes in considerations. Together with your team, you ensure that objectives are met. As a senior you take the lead, in scheduling consultations on software applied developments.

The variety is great. Besides the difference in the scope of projects, customer contact also plays an important role. You are constantly translating customer requirements into a functional solution. That means a lot of consultation and especially thinking along with the customer: advising in possibilities! As a senior software engineer you are actually constantlybusy putting Prospact on the map.

Personal contact

The personal contact with customers and the flexibility that this entails is also reflected in the way we deal with one another and the way we work. If work permits, we always have lunch together. Just talking about something else, paying attention to each other's worries: social skills are definitely a factor!

Several paths

My path to senior software engineer went via mechanic in a maintenance department (where we were the backup for the fault mechanics), junior control and HBO Electrical Engineering. But whatever path you take: your passion should be with engineering and automation. There are certainly several ways to get there!
