Last year, Louis Priem, our consultant, supervised the successful completion of audits for our ISO certifications. These are ISO 9001 and 27001. An increasing number of large clients are demanding demonstrable quality and information security.
Louis explains how we approached the certification process.
Organising the certification process
“When I started here in January”’ says Louis, “I was immediately tasked with organising the certification process. We had two separate audits: ISO 9001 focuses on business processes and quality assurance, while ISO 27001 concerns IT and information security. As an organisation, we have grown to have more than twenty employees, and these certifications demonstrate that we work according to established processes and are committed to continuous improvement.”
“We used the ISO Planner app for the administrative part of the audits”, says Louis. “It helps to structure the standards, links documentation directly to SharePoint, uses intuitive workflows, and sends reminders to keep processes, documents, and improvements up to date. That really helped us throughout the entire process. We also received support in the form of external expertise from Diks Process Support.”
Louis: “In September and October, we had auditors from Kiwa visit our premises. They examined documentation and interviewed employees to verify that processes were being carried out as described. The process was very transparent. Our practical approach is therefore very closely aligned with the established procedures!”
Louis: “We took the certification seriously. All colleagues contributed constructively, asking questions and making suggestions. For example, someone suggested conducting interim evaluations with customers for larger projects instead of just a final evaluation. We immediately incorporated that idea into the quality process. Our processes are truly in line with daily practice!”
“Of course, we also received a number of recommendations for improvement”, says Louis. “These are issues that we will address in preparation for next year’s audit. I have also made my own list of optimisations that I identified during the audits.” And what about the next certification? “In January, there will be a VCA-certification audit, during which the auditors will visit customers too.”
Louis concludes: “We are proud to have successfully completed our first ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications. We have demonstrated a combination of professionalism and realism in our organisational culture. Using the ISO planner app and involving colleagues has made the certification process efficient and valuable!”
