Process translators Niek Hesselmans and Sandor Hoogveld went to the SPS fair in Nuremberg with Siemens Netherlands and other partners. SPS stands for Smart Production Solutions and is the vocal point for everything to do with automation. Nuremberg is home to the headquarters of Siemens Digital Industries.
The fair took place in an impressive 10,000-square-metre hall. The latest innovations in automation and digitalisation were shown there.
Dutch delegation
With a Dutch delegation of more than eighty people, we travelled from Rotterdam Airport to the fair. After the opening address by CEO Siemens Netherlands, Dirk de Bilde, presentations were given over the course of the day on digitalisation now and in the future. Terms such as Digital Twin, Industrial Metaverse, Cybersecurity and Reducing Carbon footprint came up.
Guided tour
After the presentations and a delicious lunch, we were given a guided tour through the Siemens hall. There we were able to talk to Siemens specialists. Then there was an opportunity to visit the fair ourselves. Because besides Siemens, there were of course other companies present, such as Schneider Electric, Burkert, Festo, Phoenix Contact and Pilz.
View of the future
‘An impressive and fun experience,’ says Sandor, Technical Lead PCS7/PCS neo. ‘The hall at Siemens was impressive. It gave a good look at the future, from a Siemens perspective. We can use this information to prepare our customers for the future. Siemens Netherlands arranged this trip perfectly. Before travelling back to the Netherlands, the day ended with a pleasant dinner in the old town of Nuremberg and it was possible to reflect on the informative day.’
Inspiring visit
‘Gained inspiration looking to the future,’ adds Lead software Niek. ‘The visit to the SPS 2024 was inspiring. Focused on the latest innovations in automation and how Siemens contributes to them. Siemens showed impressive solutions, which improve both efficiency and sustainability in industrial processes. A good example was the Industrial Metaverse presentation, which was based on a real-life example.’
